Hello everyone!  Let me get everyone updated.

So my laptop died the day before Thanksgiving so I haven't really been able to get online too much.  Thanksgiving was cool - went out to LA to my brother's place.  Of course had I known Thanksgiving dinner would be completely bought and reheated from Whole Foods, I might have reconsidered going out there.

Anyway at Best Buy tonight, I brought my piece o' crap laptop (which in all fairness is 6 years old) to Best Buy to see if I could get it fixed.  Apparently it's hopeless.  The hard drive is dead.  So I'm typing away on a new one.

Anyway, I have to head back out to LA this weekend for business this time, but wanted to say hello.

Nighty night!

Oh - and before I forget ... I met one of the "Bachelors" over Thanksgiving - some guy named Andrew Firestone.

And my airplane adventures continue.,,

So after the emergency landing in Miami, I had to make a connecting flight back to DC.   Anyway, after all the passengers boarded the flight to DC, someone gets on the intercom to tell us, "We apologize for the inconvenience but this flight will be delayed.  Apparently the captain for your flight is coming in on another flight into Miami, and we just noticed he hasn't arrived yet.  Since we are not sure when he will be arriving, we will have to keep you on the plane in case he arrives shortly."

At least I was in first class (frequent flyership certainly has its benefits at times) and they got us all liquored up while we were waiting.  The captain finally arrived after an hour to much applause.

And I was worried about not being able to bring moisturizer onto the plane!

No, not snakes...

So what's one of the last things you want to hear on a plane (other than "I've had it with these mother fucking snakes on this mother fucking plane!" ) as you've been circling your destination airport for what seems like an unusually long time?

How about, "We seem to be having problems with the flaps on the wings.  They are not coming up evenly so we'll have to make an emergency landing.  Although we don't believe they will be necessary, emergency vehicles will be standing buy in case the plane crashes."  WTF?  Did he really just use the word "crashes"?  Isn't there some euphemism they're supposed to be using instead?  So I'm guessing they were circling to 1) get rid of the remaining fuel and 2) to clear the runway in order to get the emergency vehicles in place.  Anyway to make a long story short, we landed without incident but as we were slowing down on the runway, I noticed that there were no other planes anywhere near the runway and at each turnoff from the runway, there were 3 or 4 firetrucks (presumably so that one of the groups of firetrucks would be close to the fiery mass of metal and flesh for which they were preparing).  We probably passed 20 or so firetrucks before we stopped.

Anyway, I didn't think it was that big a deal - everyone seemed rather calm about it all.  But as I was deplaning, I heard some maintenance guy say something to the effect of "Boy, it sure doesn't look like these people knew they were just part of a Level 2 emergency!"  Does anyway have any clue what that was supposed to mean?

Well off on my next flight now from Miami back home to DC.  Pray that there are no snakes.

The Blue Lagoon

Well I'm sitting in Miami International Airport on a three hour layover en route to Orlando for an ex-boyfriend's parents' 50th wedding anniversary party so I guess I'll post another pic from Iceland.

So I thought this only happened in movies, but the other night as I was walking home after a night of drinking (shocker!), I saw a really hot guy who came shirtless out of his place carrying trash to the curb.  Anyway, I was staring at his muscled lightly furry torso as he lifted the bag into the trashcan when BAM!  I walked smack into a light pole.

Needless to say, all I could do was sit down and laugh.

OK - I'm a total point whore so here it goes ....

Some of you are wondering where I've been lately.  Well I've been caught up in one of my LJ friend's groups - gameshownetlj.  It's a combo of Pictionary, Jeopardy and Password.  It's addictive since I'm so damn competitive (although I suck at these games), but more importantly it's been an amusing time waster.  So check it out.  Sign up.  And yes - I get a bonus for plugging the community :)

In other news - I hope everyone in DC had a great Pride weekend!  I know I did.

Okay - last college basketball post for at least another year.

Now Maryland's men's team may have been banished to the NIT tournament where they quickly lost, but at least the school can boast a national championship team.  The Lady Terrapins just beat Duke in overtime to win their first women's basketball championship!!!!!  GO TERPS!!!

*sigh* So much for the Cinderella story of the century. At least I picked UCLA to go to the championship game so I might actually get some money out of it.

So a weird thing happened on the Metro tonight.  I was coming home from work a little late tonight, and three butt-ugly 18 year old hooligan-types boarded the train at Woodley Park.  The train started to leave the station but stopped suddenly saying that the trains were single-tracking.  Now of all the years I've been riding the Metro, part of this seemed a little bit unusual.  Not the single-tracking part, but 1) if they knew they were single-tracking, normally they would wait at the station with the doors open so anyone coming down the escalators could board, and 2) normally they would tell us the two stations the trains were single-tracking between.  Of course I just brushed it off to an incompetent driver.  Anyway, we waited there at the station with the doors closed for about 10 minutes while the hooligans were cursing up a storm.  All of a sudden, one door to the train I was riding opened, and in came six police officers.   They scanned the seats and went up to the three kids and asked if they had just been involved in a car accident.  They said no, and the police officers told them to get off the train.  They complied and were taken to one end of the station where the officers started to interrogate them.   At that point the doors closed and proceded forward.  At the next station, there was no mention of the single-tracking.  I wonder what kind of trouble those boys got themselves into?
